With this piece I wanted to incorporate both the heavy linework, and loose flow of watercolor techniques used by swiss German artist Paul Klee. Towards the beginning of his mature career, Klee created brightly colored pieces inspired by his trip to Tunisia, however as his age advanced and his health worsened his palate became desaturated, and his works began to feature heavy dark lines. In my piece I wanted to have a figure sort of trapped behind this strangely interconnected rectangular outlines. I wanted the outside to be much less constrictive, so I applied a lot of water all at once so when I fin ally put down the paint it would create a Cali flouring affect. If I could go back and redo this piece I would add watercolor between the bars of the age so it had a better cohesion to the piece.
